Stephen Colbert Faces His Ablacknophobia

Attorney General Eric Holder issued a challenge to all Americans when he said we are a nation of cowards when it comes to discussing the issue of race. Stephen Colbert took on that challenge by facing his ablacknophobia and he conquered it. Well, almost. Hey, at least he attempted. If only we were all so brave. At least we are off to a good start at BPC.

Talking about race with some people is about as uncomfortable as being covered in spiders.

Talking about race is really tough. When I think about it, it’s something you want to address but at the same time have it be irrelevant. I really don’t think anyone knows how to do it. (Side thought: I hate when I hear anyone say, “I don’t see color“. Ugh!)

That said, I can’t help but to feel we should address it, forget it, then move on with business.

@ Ben and MD, Valid points, however I think the only way to make race relevant is to address it candidly. Discuss it in a way that is meaningful so that people understand how it and racism functions. Everyone is in such a rush to get over it because of how silly it is, but that can’t happen until we confront it and our own racist beliefs.
